Vaiśampāyana said: O king! Frightened by that noise, the rākṣasa's relatives and their attendants came out of their houses.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे राजा! उस शोर से भयभीत होकर राक्षस के परिजन और उनके सेवक अपने घरों से बाहर निकल आये।

On seeing them terrified and bereft of reason, the powerful Bhīmā, supreme among those who wield arms, pacified them and made them promise.
उन्हें भयभीत और विवेकशून्य देखकर शस्त्रधारियों में श्रेष्ठ शक्तिशाली भीम ने उन्हें शान्त किया और वचन देने को कहा।

"You shall never do violence to humans here. Those who perform violence will quickly die the same way."
"आप यहां कभी भी मनुष्यों पर हिंसा नहीं करेंगे। जो लोग हिंसा करेंगे वे उसी तरह जल्दी मर जाएंगे।"

तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा तानि रक्षांसि भारत एवमस्त्विति तं प्राहुर्जगृहुः समयं च तम्
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! On hearing his words, the rākṣasa-s gave the desired promise and accepted the terms.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उनकी बातें सुनकर राक्षसों ने वांछित वचन दिया और शर्तें स्वीकार कर लीं।
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! From that day, the rākṣasa-s there were friendly and behaved peacefully when they were sighted in town by the inhabitants of that town.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! उस दिन से, राक्षस मित्रवत हो गए और जब भी उन्हें उस शहर के निवासियों ने शहर में देखा तो वे शांतिपूर्वक व्यवहार करने लगे।
Then, unobserved by anyone, Bhīmā took the dead maneater and placed him at one of the gates. He then went away.
तब, किसी के द्वारा देखे बिना, भीम ने मृत नरभक्षी को ले लिया और उसे एक द्वार पर रख दिया। फिर वह चला गया.
After killing him, Bhīmā returned to the Brāhmaṇa's house and described in detail to the king all that had happened.
उसे मारने के बाद, भीम ब्राह्मण के घर लौट आए और राजा को जो कुछ हुआ था, उसका विस्तार से वर्णन किया।
The next morning, the inhabitants of the town came out and saw the rākṣasa lying dead on the ground, his body wet with blood,
अगली सुबह, नगर के निवासी बाहर आए और राक्षस को जमीन पर मृत पड़ा देखा, उसका शरीर खून से लथपथ था।
horrible and spread out, as huge as the peak of a mountain. They went to Ekacakrā and spread the news throughout the city.
भयानक और फैला हुआ, पहाड़ की चोटी जितना विशाल। वे एकचक्रा गए और पूरे शहर में खबर फैला दी।
O king! In their thousands, the citizens went with their wives, old people and the young to see Baka.
हे राजा! हजारों की संख्या में नागरिक अपनी पत्नियों, बूढ़ों और युवाओं के साथ बाका को देखने गए।
They were astonished at the sight of this superhuman feat. O ruler of the earth! They gave offerings of gratitude to the gods.
वे इस अलौकिक पराक्रम को देखकर आश्चर्यचकित रह गये। हे पृथ्वी के शासक! उन्होंने देवताओं को कृतज्ञता का प्रसाद दिया।
Then they began to calculate whose turn it had been the previous day to supply food. Learning that it was the Brāhmaṇa's turn, they went to him and questioned him.
फिर उन्होंने हिसाब लगाना शुरू किया कि पिछले दिन भोजन देने की बारी किसकी थी। यह जानकर कि अब ब्राह्मण की बारी है, वे उसके पास गए और उससे पूछताछ की।
Thus repeatedly asked, the bull among Brāhmana-s then protected the Pāṇḍava-s, but told the citizens everything else.
इस प्रकार बार-बार पूछने पर, ब्राह्मणों के बीच बैल ने पांडवों की रक्षा की, लेकिन नागरिकों को बाकी सब कुछ बता दिया।
"When I was ordered to supply the food, I was weeping with my family, when a great-souled Brāhmaṇa, learned in the mantra-s, saw me.
"जब मुझे भोजन उपलब्ध कराने का आदेश दिया गया, तो मैं अपने परिवार के साथ रो रहा था, तभी मंत्रों में विद्वान एक महान आत्मा वाले ब्राह्मण ने मुझे देखा।

परिपृच्छ्य स मां पूर्वं परिक्लेशं पुरस्य च अब्रवीद्ब्राह्मणश्रेष्ठ आश्वास्य प्रहसन्निव
He asked me about the cause and learnt about the calamity that had befallen this city. That best among Brāhmana-s then reassured us and smilingly comforted us.
उन्होंने मुझसे इसका कारण पूछा और इस शहर पर आई विपत्ति के बारे में जाना। तब ब्राह्मणों में सर्वश्रेष्ठ ने हमें आश्वस्त किया और मुस्कुराते हुए हमें सांत्वना दी।
He said that he would himself car ry the food to the evil-hearted one and that we should not be frightened for his sake.
उन्होंने कहा कि वह स्वयं उस दुष्ट हृदय वाले व्यक्ति के लिए भोजन ले जायेंगे और हमें उनके कारण भयभीत नहीं होना चाहिए।

स तदन्नमुपादाय गतो बकवनं प्रति तेन नूनं भवेदेतत्कर्म लोकहितं कृतम्
After taking the food, he set out for the forest where Baka lived. For the welfare of the worlds, he must have been the one who performed this deed"
भोजन लेने के बाद, वह उस जंगल की ओर निकल गया जहाँ बाका रहता था। संसार के कल्याण के लिए उन्होंने ही यह कार्य किया होगा।"
Thereupon, all the astonished and delighted Brāhmana-s, Kṣatriya-s, Vaiśya-s and Śūdra-s had a feast in honour of the Brāhmaṇa.
इसके बाद, सभी आश्चर्यचकित और प्रसन्न ब्राह्मणों, क्षत्रियों, वैश्यों और शूद्रों ने ब्राह्मण के सम्मान में एक भोज किया।
All the inhabitants of the country came to the city to witness this extraordinary miracle. Pṛthā's sons went on living there.
इस असाधारण चमत्कार को देखने के लिए देश के सभी निवासी शहर में आये। पृथा के पुत्र वहीं रहने लगे।
